The Day of the LORD is a special term in the Bible used to refer to a period of time when God directly intervenes in human affairs—in judgment or in blessing. The Day of the Lord we are presently waiting for in our time frame will begin with the rapture (or “translation”) of the church and will continue through the tribulation period (seven years), and on through the thousand-year reign of Christ on earth until the time of the “new heavens and new earth.” (Rev. 21)

While we cannot name the exact date of the Lord’s Return its nearness may be known by the character of the Times. As to this the New Testament gives no uncertain sound. What is here meant is “prophetic knowledge” of the things recorded in the Book of Daniel and other prophetic writings of the Scriptures. This is made clear by the statement that only the “wise” shall understand. That is, those who are enlightened by the Holy Spirit, and not those who merely have intellectual knowledge, for the wicked shall not understand.

We are first introduced to the time of the Tribulation in the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, and the prophet calls it the time of ‘Jacob’s trouble’ because it will primarily center on the Jews in Israel. When Jesus returns for His Church, made up of believing Jews and Gentiles, and ‘catches them away’ to be with Him in Heaven, the Bible says that God will once again focus on the Jews, and the great and terrible time of the Great Tribualtion will begin.

A 7 Year Peace Treaty is about to be crafted and signed by all parties concerned. This is the goal that Pope Francis is working towards. When will it happen? No one can say. But this is as close to that peace treaty as we have ever been in the 2,000 years since the prophecies were first given.

We are slowly losing the battle against infectious diseases. After scientists made huge progress in the 20th century with the discovery of wonder cures like penicillin and the polio vaccine, they are now watching helplessly as bacteria and viruses become totally immune to all forms of treatment.

What is the “the day and hour no one knows”? In mainstream christian understanding it’s the time of the return of Jesus to the earth, or his second coming. When Jesus speaks of the end times in the book of Matthew He uses this peculiar phrase in reference to the timing of His return.

Anti-Christian sentiment is growing toward those who believe in a biblical last days scenario prior to Christ’s return. An article by a Lutheran leader shows not only this growing resentment towards Bible-believing Christians but also the interspritual path this change in attitude is taking.

Much of the intensified major future activity for this region is prophesied to occur along the Dead Sea Transform fault, a continuation of the Red Sea and East African Rift system. This fault runs directly under the Dead Sea, up through the Jordan River valley, the Sea of Galilee, and northward through Lebanon.

The Bible gives many examples of signs that should warn us of the coming end of the age. Six such signs are given by Jesus, two characteristics are given by Paul, and eleven other occurrences are given by the prophets to occur prior to or soon after the end of the age. While we are also told we will not know the time of the End, God obviously wanted us to know when that time was getting closer. As the Christian church is increasingly drawn into the interfaith movement, and as more and more churches go into isolation, preparing to sleep through the growing attacks on their faith, perhaps God knew it would take a few signs to wake us up and remind us that we have work to do.
