Meriam Yahia Ibrahim is currently in a prison in Sudan with her infant daughter and her toddler son. She is scheduled to remain there for about two years, until her daughter is weaned. She is then to be executed. Saeed Abedini has served one year of a ten-year sentence in prison in Iran. It is possible that the government will release him once his sentence is filled — it’s even possible they’ll release him early. But his health is poor, conditions are horrible, and he has to endure regular beatings from guards and other inmates.

So long as the international community and human rights organizations fail to employ some common sense and honesty—fail to call a spade a spade—so will they ensure that countless more innocent humans like Meriam Ibrahim continue to suffer “appalling and abhorrent” treatment, simply for trying to exercise their “right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion” under Islam.

Could you imagine the uproar in the mainstream media that we would see if a member of a politically favored class of people was crucified for who or what they are? There would be front page headlines for weeks. But because members of a politically favored class (Muslims) are doing it to members of a non-politically favored class (Christians), it is not newsworthy at all according to the media.

The top ten countries for persecuting Christians over the last year were ranked: North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, Pakistan, Iran and Yemen, according to Open Doors USA, an organization that monitors and exposes Christian persecution around the globe.
