It’s hardest to wait when I am uncertain about the outcome. When I’m trusting God for the best, while at the same time preparing for the worst. It would be much easier if I had a guaranteed good outcome. Or at least a promise from God to hold on to.

Persistent prayer proves hard for many Christians. We may labor on our knees for years as we pray for our unbelieving child, an empty womb, our spouse to be converted, the friend battling cancer, depression to no longer have a hold, a sin to lose its grip, or the gift of just one good friend.

First and foremost, prayer is a believer’s personal communication with God. In nearly all religions and belief systems, prayer is usually memorized and ritualistic, lacking any personal interactive qualities. Biblical Christianity is the exception because a true Christian, one who is born again by the Spirit of God, begins his or her life in Christ in a very personal way: with a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus.

As I read the word slowly and with great deliberation, I find that prayer, as taught by Jesus Christ and the Apostles, bears little resemblance to the “name it and claim it” prayers being widely taught today. With great frequency I hear self-proclaimed evangelists and teachers instructing the body to sow their financial seed to God and then to tell God, in no uncertain terms, exactly what material “blessings” they want in return from Him.

When you pick up an article or book, or hear a talk addressing prayer, what’s your usual reaction? Many of us soon feel guilty. Guilty that we don’t pray as much as we should or as widely as we should. Guilty that we simply don’t pray. Why don’t I pray? What’s the problem here? Where is my view of prayer going wrong? What is it about my view of God, or of myself as I pray that needs adjusting?
by Matt Slick
Prayer is the practice of the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the privilege of place where we touch the heart of the Father through the Son of God, Jesus our Lord.
by Matt Slick
Prayer is essential in the Christian’s life. Without it your witness will be far less effective and you will be far more vulnerable to the enemy. When you witness, you need the blessing and support of the Lord.

Have you struggled with prayer? Does prayer seem like an exercise in eloquent speech that you just don’t possess? Prayer is not a mysterious practice reserved only for clergy and the religiously devout. Prayer is simply communicating with God—listening and talking to him.
